{"id":9277,"date":"2020-02-10T11:41:28","date_gmt":"2020-02-10T17:41:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bbqdryrubs.com\/?p=9277"},"modified":"2023-09-27T11:57:07","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T16:57:07","slug":"oklahoma-joes-rider-dlx-pellet-grill-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bbqdryrubs.com\/oklahoma-joes-rider-dlx-pellet-grill-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma Joe&#8217;s Rider DLX Pellet Grill Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I have spent the past month playing with the first pellet grill from Oklahoma Joe&#8217;s, the Rider DLX., and I think it is great!\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Rider DLX has the classic Oklahoma Joe&#8217;s styling, massive capacity and, most impressively, functions as a smoker and a grill.\u00a0 The ability to obtain the high heat needed for serious grilling has traditionally been a weakness of many models of pellet grills. in the middle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The 17 inch circular grate is located directly over the fire pot, heat diffuser and flame shield.\u00a0 When the grill is put into &#8220;Sear Mode&#8221; the heat diffuser opens and the circular grate can reach serious grilling temperatures.\u00a0 Oklahoma Joe&#8217;s says the grill can get up to 650F but I have measured temperatures as high as 700F.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There are three settings on the digital control panel for grilling:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Low (335-365F)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Medium (435-465F)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">High (620-650F)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I crank the grill to &#8220;High&#8221; when I want to put serious grill marks on steaks but do most of my grilling on the &#8220;Medium&#8221; setting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I love grilling on the Rider DLX.\u00a0 The grill is as easy to use as a propane grill and lets me cook over an open wood fired flame without having to mess around with lighting charcoal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I made a video of my first time grilling chicken wings.\u00a0 I wanted to see how much usable grilling space the circular grate really provide as well as start to understand hot spots, flare-ups, etc.\u00a0 The wings turned out amazing and I was delighted at how the grill performed!<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vTyNJRtJKgU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Something that became really apparent while I was grilling the wings was how easy it was to do adopt a two zone (Hot\/Cool) technique.\u00a0 If the wings were starting to burn then I could easily move them to a cooler part of the grill.\u00a0 On most pellet grills you only have a single temperature throughout the grill.\u00a0 I like the flexibility the Rider DLX offers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I have been using the Rider DLX as my primary grill for over a month now and have no complaints whatsoever.<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IwY0Kum90lE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_the_Rider_DLX_as_a_Smoker\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Using the Rider DLX as a Smoker<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Let me start by saying the the Rider DLX is an excellent smoker.\u00a0 However, I do need to follow that up with the caution to not use the circular area on the primary cooking grate when you are cooking Low and Slow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0When I use this grill as a smoker I will place the meat on either of the two elevated cooking racks or on the sides of the primary grate.\u00a0 The circular grate directly above the fire pot gets too hot for Low and Slow even when the grill is set at its lowest settings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The two upper grates give you plenty of space for meat.
